Catai is the ancient name that the Europeans gave to China. And it’s also the name of the wine production that the Sella&Mosca winery, one of the most famous and prestigious Italian cellars, began in China few years ago. Catai production offers a wide range of wines that satisfies the different taste requirements of the consumer.

The wine offering includes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay, as well as Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve and Chardonnay "Superior". The high quality Catai wines have been recognized by important international awards, like the Catai Chardonnay (2000), which received the title of “Best Chinese White Wine” from an international jury of wine producers and sommelier at the Beijing International Food & Wine Experience. Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon are classic wines suitable for every occasion. Chardonnay is a white wine, to be drunk chilled as an aperitif or coupled with starters and fish dishes. Merlot and Cabernet-Sauvignon are red wines, with unmistakeable flavour and aroma, perfect to be served at cellar-temperature during the meal, to accompany both white and red meat dishes.

In 1998 the first vines were planted on the terraced terrain in the village of Pingdu, choosing world-wide known varietals like Cabernet-Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay e Sauvignon Blanc. The first vintage of the Sella&Mosca wine was in 2000 and was almost experimental due to the youth of the grapes. The wines produced were commercialised in the spring of 2001 under the name Catai, and they were an immediate success among the best Chinese hotel chains and restaurants.

The Catai wines were launched in China and are dedicated to the Chinese market.
